The UN Human Rights Council
Hearings on Turkmenistan took place at the session of the United National Human Rights Council on September 23 in Geneva. The report submitted by the Turkmen government was presented in Russian by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Austria and the OSCE, Mr Essen Aidogdyev.
In the 40 page country report the authorities of Turkmenistan made an attempt to address the numerous concerns raised by the UN resolutions with regard to human rights violations in the country.
By a majority vote the Human Rights Council decided not to terminate the procedure against Turkmenistan. This means that the government of Turkmenistan will be obliged to submit additional documents and address the issues, which have not been covered at all or covered insufficiently in the report presented to the Council.
