Court trial over G. Annaniyazov held

As has just become known, on Tuesday, October 7 the court trial over Gulgeldy Annaniyazov was held in Ashgabat. He was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment. The details are being clarified.

We hope that this case will be brought to the attention of the international community, primarily the Norwegian authorities (political asylum was granted to G. Annaniyazov in Norway), the OSCE, European Union and other international organizations. It is likely that G. Annaniyazov will be recognized as a prisoner of conscience.

The Turkmen dissident Gulgeldy Annaniyazov obtained a refugee status in Norway in 2002. In June 2008, without receiving the official approval of the Turkmen authorities, he entered the country illegally and was detained by the Turkmen special services.
